Spring is here!…or right around the corner and I love analyzing the colors of the season. There will always be the classical black and whites in almost any seasonal collection but spring allows more creativity with color. There are two sides to spring: the pastels and the brights. I love pastels; they’re light, fun and whimsical – celebrating warmth and life. However I’m even more impressed when a designer chooses bold, bright colors and executes them fabulously. There are many sources I look at while finding my favorite seasonal colors:
1. Pantone - They’re the #1 source when looking at seasonal colors. They decide what colors to use for the entire industry. For spring 2010 they choose turquoise as the it color. It’s called the getaway color for the vacation and happy vibe it gives off. I strongly suggest reading the Pantone Spring 2010 Report. It’s fun, very easy to read and goes more in depth into why and how colors are chosen.
2. Designers – These are the people directly influencing the world of style so who better to look at? Looking at spring’s runway shows is a fun way to spot popular colors for this season.
The economical down turn has undoubtedly been effecting nearly every industry and the vibe for this season is happiness and hope. You can see this through the colors designers choose; they aren’t sulky but positive and vibrant with bright colors.
My Favorite Colors from the designers this season:
Lim said he wanted to design clothes which creates a reason for women to shop and picked a lipstick-red shade for many pieces:
I love the blue hues Adam used in his spring collection. They are relaxing and accented by textures including satin and organza.
McQueens colors were extremely vivid with tawny and aqua hues digitally printed with marvelous execution.
Gn proclaimed an end to the recession with his bold yellows and deep purples.
Rimondi was the only collection I choose deep colors as some of my favorites for the season. Spring is about the brights however, I feel these colors are also “bright” darks in their own regard giving off a fresh royal vibe.
I loved Balmain’s use of glitter, glamour and metallics. The dress pictured to the right below is the one Kate Hudson wore in Bazaar’s feature for the December issue.
Blumarine used a tie dye technique for high fashion and it looks fabulous!
Lagerfeld used mainly light and pastel colors on the signature tweed suits however he also used a splash of red on a couple pieces, shoes and accessories.
Dior never fails. This collection = drama and glamour; showcasing knock-out bold and brightly colored pieces at the end of the show.
This designer was the only one who saturated almost his entire collection in many different hues of turquoise and aqua.
The Catens used bright bubblegum pink and orange colored plastics to coincide with their camp theme.
Armani created colorful work wear featured in a very 80s shade with many red, pink and blue hues.
Wu is continuing his title of designer of the moment by styling clients like Michelle Obama. Natalie Portman is also a big fan of Wu, wearing his dress like the one below (except in a darker shade) earlier last fall.
Lanvin was full of bright-colored draping this season. Elbaz used both bright sheer and solid fabrics creating exceptional drama and elegance.
I was so happy when I looked at McCartney’s collection. It honestly gives off such a positive vibe – the colors, lines and even the makeup & hair makes the world a little brighter.
The colors Versace uses are incredibly signature; they’re bright pastels embellished with metallics. I’m obsessed with Versace this season and love the Alice in Wonderland theme!
Viktor & Rolf are brilliant designers creating unique geometric shapes with tulle. The beautiful salmon and teal colors only accent their fabulous designs.

Beautiful colors! Since I’m so stuck in black, gunmetal gray and dark browns, these colors will have to just be accessories. Maybe Ill get out of my rut this year – just a little.
Thanks for putting this together! I didn’t realize how many deeply saturated colors there are for spring until I saw them all together!
I’m absolutely loving the bright colors; however, I’m more smitten with nude, shimmering pastels, like the hues seen at Burberry not too long ago. There’s something so dainty and feminine about neutral tones that is absolutely stunning!!
