Designer Spotlight: Kahri by KahriAnne Kerr

I love the whimsical rocker vibe from the new Kahri Spring 2010 Collection. The lines, colors and fabrics give a very chic punk princess vibe. One of the hottest trends this year is animal print, and the illusional zebra pattern Kahri created by ruching black silk organza over white sateen is brilliant. By using contrasting colors like pink & black, Kahri created a fabulous refined edgy patchwork effect. The use of ruffles & layers keeps the collection very feminine. I’m especially obsessed with the pair of shorts that have ruffles and gems on the bottom – they’re so fun!

Interview with creator & designer Kahri:

What type of person was this season’s collection made for?
Kahri: My target customers are 15-35 years old, fierce, independent, funky, kick ass chicks.

I love the ruffles around the waist you created on several pieces & the rich colors used. Where did the influence for the ultra fun & feminine vibe come from?
Kahri: I love ruffles and nipped in waists that create a sexy feminine silhouette. I like bold colors and to mix them with basic black. I think everyone looks good in fuchsia and purple.

How long have you been designing?
Kahri: I’ve been designing my line since 2002.

Who is your favorite designer/role model?
Kahri: Stephen Sprouse is my favorite designer. I also respect Anna Sui and Betsey Johnson.

Do you look for a seasonal theme for each collection or design each piece according to what you feel at the moment?
Kahri: I always think of a theme for each collection. For Spring 2010 I was listening to a lot of the Velvet Underground songs from the 60s and so their song “Beginning to See the Light” is my theme. I used more lighter colors in this collection and tried to have a more optimistic and lighthearted look to the collection.

What does fashion mean to you?
Kahri: Fashion is my life. My collection is my baby and I’m completely in love and obsessed.
