Fashion Faux Pas I’m Obsessed With

Bright nails

The usual rule of thumb is that fall/winter = darker shades, spring/summer = brighter shades. If I want to wear a teal shade on my nails in December, I’m going to.

Belts

For the life of me I can’t find it anywhere online but I distinctly remember reading this year in one of the top fashion magazines that they projected belts are out for this year. I was shocked! I love belts and this article/opinion did not change my obsession. Reviewing this years runway, designers are still using belts to complete the look, and belts aren’t going anywhere.

Platform Stilettos

These aren’t so much a current faux pas of the moment but will be out soon as I project the funky & futuristic wedge will take over this coming year and begin to evolve into new styles.

SJP (or rather Patricia Field) started this trend last year with Sex & the City the Movie, but it changed into a leggings-under-the-sock look that continues to be a both a street and runway trend – I <3 it!

Pale lip

I’m SO OVER the red lip craze! It was in last spring, but the current popular red shades now look way too circalicious  for me. I love Taylor Swift & InStyle, but her December cover was horrid! BTW – I thought it looked a little reminiscent to Blake Lively’s cover for Vogue in spring. I’m certain this is a trend we will look back on and be embarrassed by this putrid shade of the season. I recently interviewed makeup artist, Shoko Kubota who agrees with my anti-red lip distaste and said “The lips are sexy as they are and the ultimate form of femininity.”

I love Leighton….but seriously?!

Stereotypical genres

I love taking anything stereotypical and making it different. Wearing my “emo” chain, vintage fur just because and heels – with everything. Taking any style that is usually classified into a certain genre like “goth” or “punk” for example and making it fit into my style which is more classic and girly is a fun game I like to play. I’m inspired by designers like Alexander McQueen who takes funky looks and make them stylish and glamorous.
